Headache & Migraines
There are many types of headaches and also many causes. Chiropractors are trained to treat many of these causes. Problems that affect the vertebrae in the neck can cause headaches and be a contributory factor in migraine headaches as well. Headaches can present in many ways. Headaches can common be due to stress or anxiety causing tightening of the muscles in the shoulders and neck. Migraine headaches can be very distressing and can last for several days. Symptoms can include severe head pain, dizziness, nausea, flashing lights and visual disturbances. Migraine can be caused by irritation of the nerves close to the vertebrae in the neck or muscular tension. Chiropractic has been known to have a large measure of success in treating some forms of migraine and relieving tension headaches by manipulation, soft tissue treatment and lifestyle / ergonomic advice.
Cervicogenic Headaches
Chiropractors acknowledge that there are many causes of headaches. Where they are related to dysfunction in the cervical spine, there is evidence to show the benefit of spinal manipulation. Headaches of this nature can be unilateral or bilateral and are often located in the back of the head and above the eyes. They are mild-moderate in intensity. Certain activities and posture can worsen the headache, including the sustained head position or external pressure over the cervical spine or occipital region.
Chiropractors treat cervicogenic headaches using a package of care that may include manual therapies, exercise, acupuncture, therapeutic advice and postural advice.
Migraine Headaches

Dizziness
Dizziness is a symptom of disorientation which can be a sensation that the person or their environment is spinning. Sometimes these symptoms can be related to cervical spine (Neck joint) dysfunction. Chiropractors treat dizziness and vertigo using a package of care that may include manual therapies and onward referral where indicated.
Neck Pain
Neck pain commonly occurs due to whiplash injuries, falls, strained muscles, arthritic changes in the spine, poor posture or stress. Neck pain can refer to the shoulders and down the arms and, if there is irritation of the nerves that come from the neck and supply the arms and hands, you may also experience pins and needles, tingling or numbness in these areas.
Because there are many possible and contributory causes of headaches we need to obtain a proper understanding of what is causing them. Because of this, at the Milton Keynes Chiropractic Clinic, we perform a thorough history taking and full examination (which involves chiropractic, orthopaedic, neurological and postural assessments and may even involve us taking X-rays of you). Your first appointment will take approximately 1 hour.
