Back Pain

Acute Low Back Pain & Chronic Low Back Pain

Back Pain
The spine is the main support for our bodies and protects the spinal cord and the body’s nervous system. Nerves branch off your spinal cord from between each spinal joint. Therefore, a mechanical dysfunction of the joints can lead to back pain – commonly caused by lifting and carrying incorrectly or by poor posture, leading to restriction of the joints in the spine.

Mechanical back pain is pain in the anatomic region of the back for which it is impossible to identify a specific pathology cause of pain. It can include back pain with or without, pain in the lower limbs which may or may not interfere with activities of daily living. Chiropractors treat mechanical back pain using a package of care that may include manual therapies, exercise, rehabilitation, acupuncture and therapeutic advice. There is considerable evidence to support this approach to patient care:

Pelvic pain can be caused by lifting and carrying incorrectly, poor posture or pregnancy and can lead to pain in the low back, buttocks, hips, lower abdomen, groin and thighs. Due to the fact that back problems can sometimes refer to pain in the hips or legs it can commonly be mistaken for hip pain or sciatica.

Because there are many causes of back pain we need to obtain a proper understanding of what is causing it. Because of this, at the Milton Keynes Chiropractic Clinic, we perform a thorough history taking and full examination (which involves chiropractic, orthopaedic, neurological and postural assessments and may even involve us taking X-rays of you) . Your first appointment will take approximately 1 hour.
